About Internship Program

The Actuarial Development Program is designed in identifying and developing future actuarial talents for the organization. The outcome of actuarial development program is skilled actuarial leaders who have the achievement of Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries.

The actuarial development program is divided into three phases:

  • Pre-Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA)
  • ASA to Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
  • FSA plus three years.

This classification includes key components that help interns achieve required experience and skills for each phase.

Actuarial Development Program Criteria

  • Required to be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or related fields.
  • Completed & passed one Society of Actuaries exam.
  • Prepared to relocate depending on rotational program needs.
  • Expected to have excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expected to know one programming language.
  • Completion of an insurance industry internship.
  • Dedicated and desirous to attain Actuarial Fellowship designation.

During your undergraduate program, you need to have participated in a individual or team case study projects.

Interns get the chance to work with Genworth leaders on challenging assignments. The Actuarial Development Program prepares you for a career that is fulfilling and rewarding.

Assignments are usually on rotational basis in a period of 18 to 24 months. The rotation targets vary mainly based on the phase in which the intern is. Each intern has a dedicated mentor to ensure individual support and guidance. Meetings will be scheduled on a monthly basis between the student and their mentor.  This will allow proper analysis of the skills and knowledge of the participant.

Genworth offers a continuous learning environment to help students improve their skills and motivates them to attain FSA credential. Genworth offers an inspiring and helpful environment for them to become successful actuaries.

Focused training sessions are conducted to help interns develop business acumen, foundational skills & leadership qualities. Students should complete at least one exam within six months, while in the program. The organization pays for study materials, exam fees and seminars. Up to 200 hours of study time is provided during work hours for a six month period. Moreover, Genworth offers salary increases/bonuses when passing exams.
